CBT is a psychological treatment based on scientific principles which help the client understand their problems and how these affect their thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
CBT is a combination of cognitive therapy which examines negative thinking, attitudes and beliefs and behavioural therapy which focuses on the behaviour governed by thoughts and feelings.
The aim of the therapy is to enable clients to generate solutions
to problems based on skills learned in therapy which are more effective
than their present coping strategies. CBT has been shown to be at
least as effective as anti-depressant medication, but far superior
to medication in the prevention of relapse and recurrence of illness.
Research on CBT has been extensive and is an effective form of counselling in many areas such as:
• Depression
• Anxiety and Panic Attacks
• Anger/Stress Management
• Phobias
• Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
• Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
